Catching Up With Charles Galin!

I caught up with Drag King Charles Galin when he was in between outfit changes to see what makes him tick!

What attracted you to drag?

My mother showed me an episode of Drag Race and noticed I did the same thing, just “male” illusion in theatre.

How long have you been doing drag?

Since June 2009.

Do you have a lot of support?

Yes, my family, friends and local fans

How would you describe your drag style?

Wacky out of ordinary character mash ups. Androgynous in most cases. CARTOONY

Who did you/do you look up to?

Jim Carrery, My Parents, Brother, Charlie Chaplin, Nina Flowers, Landon Cider, King Phanton, Havok Von Doom, EXPOSURE DRAG, Abhora, Biqtch Puddin, Lady Forbidden, Pelon Suelto,

What are your biggest accomplishments in and out of drag?

Graduating Community College, Surviving 18 year, socializing more, speaking up.

Do you regularly preform somewhere? When can people catch you preforming?

Yes, Exposure Drag in Highland Park at the Offbeat Bar on York Mondays and Queer as Punk at Lot 1 Café Sundays.

Would you like Drag to be a full time career?

One of my full time careers yes.

How different is it from your every day job?

I perform more adult content and I am more comfortable doing it. It’s a 50/50 feeling.

All who make me do pray hands during their performance and Lady Forbidden, she full body smashes you but gentle smash.

What advice do you have for drag artists that are just starting out?

MEMORIZE YOUR LYRICS!!!! If you have fun, the audience will have fun with you. Thank the venue and tip your bartenders. Give thanks to those that follow you, socialize and get to know why regulars are regulars, and especially socialize with fellow Drag artists. HAVE FUN, IF YOU MESS UP USE IT AND KEEP GOING!!! IMPROV IS GRAND.

What should we expect to see from you in the future?

Getting out in the world to spread the smiles, cackles and what the fuck moments. Acting more and writing my own stories. Being a full fledged entertainer.
